On Goudy’s Companion: an Interview with Les Feller
Les Feller, amateur printer, type enthusiast, and founder and operator of both the Twin Quills Press in Niles, Illinois and the Printer’s Row Printing Museum in Chicago, discusses in a 2014 interview how he discovered and purchased a number of sets of Monotype matrices of a then-unidentified typeface at the liquidation of Monsen Typographers in Chicago.
This typeface would soon come to be identified as “Companion,” a type designed by Frederic W. Goudy and created exclusively for Woman’s Home Companion magazine in 1931.
