Pittsburgh’s access to large reserves of raw materials, especially coal, was instrumental to the emergence of the “Steel City” as a leading industrial center in the late 19th cent. Industries include transportation equipment; metal, wood, plastic, paper, and glass products; printing and publishing; oil refining; textiles; chemicals; and computers. After the mid-1970s, as the number of those employed in the steel industry declined, the city’s economic base underwent a dramatic shift from manufacturing to service industries and commercial enterprises. Once a major center for corporate headquarters, many departed in the 1990s, a period, however, that saw the growth of high-technology companies. The city is also famous for such places as Brothers Grimm Bar and Restaurant, Squirrel Hill, Patty Jo’s, The Beer Market, McArdle’s Pub, Gooski’s, Artifacts, South Side Slopes, Sandcastle Water Park, Station Square, Carnegie Museum of Art, Hogs Bar & Grill, Altar Bar, Doubledays Burgers, Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, Gallery G Glass, Tad’s on East Carson, Tiki Lounge, The ScareHouse, Club Cafe, National Aviary, Fox and Hound Pittsburgh, Mr. Rogers’ Memorial Statue, Excuses Bar & Grill, James Gallery, Phipps Conservatory, Casey’s Draft House, Andy Warhol Museum. Take Action – Don’t be indifferent! JDRF works towards a day when there is no more type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Diabetes – is a problem with your body that causes blood glucose (sugar) levels to rise higher than normal. This is also called hyperglycemia. When you eat your body breaks food down into glucose and sends it into the blood. Insulin then helps move the glucose from the blood into your cells. When glucose enters your cells, it is either used as fuel for energy right away or stored for later use. In a person with diabetes, there is a problem with insulin. But, not everyone with diabetes has the same problem. Health Care and Social Assistance comprises establishments primarily engaged in providing health care by diagnosis and treatment, providing residential care for medical and social reasons, and providing social assistance, such as counselling, welfare, child protection, community housing and food services, vocational rehabilitation and child care, to those requiring such assistance.Excluded from this sector are aerobic classes in Amusement, Gambling, and Recreation Industries and nonmedical diet and weight reducing centers in Personal and Laundry Services. Although these can be viewed as health services, these services are not typically delivered by health practitioners. It’s ok if you have no possibility to Donate, but have a desire to help!
